The Stardome is teaming up with Peace, Love and Dog Paws Rescue for "Come, Sit, Stay, Laugh" comedy show!  Bringing a night of laughter with Comedians Mickey Dean, Dino Posey and Joy the "Queen of Clean". The show will be at the Stardome Comedy Club on June 14th at 7:30 PM. Peace Love & Dog Paws Rescue, Inc. is a not-for-profit, all volunteer, dog rescue organization.  They are comprised of volunteers who have a love for dogs and a passion to help save their lives.  The organization depends on volunteers’ commitment to rescue dogs and help pave a path to their new life.

Peace Love & Dog Paws Rescue, Inc. believes that it their moral responsibility to rescue, protect, and improve the lives of abused, neglected, and homeless dogs of all breeds. Pledging to be the voice for those dogs that cannot speak and be their saving grace when all hope has been lost. The goals of the organization are to promote kindness to animals through education and by example, encourage responsible pet ownership, support spay/neuter of dogs to help control the pet population. Believing in building strong alliances with fellow, reputable rescues, and rescuers, so that that they can work together in the relentless fight to save lives… one dog at a time.

If you're Korean American and raised in Nashville... you can't help but be funny!!

Cho, who is of Korean American descent, was raised in Knoxville and went into stand-up comedy in 1986. He attended University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1989 to pursue his career, but always with the intent of returning to his roots in Tennessee.

Cho often uses his childhood experiences as an Asian American in the South in his comedy. "I'm an Asian with a Southern accent," remarks Cho, "To a lot of people, that right there is funny." 

From the start of his career, Henry Cho was determined to be more than just an Asian comic. "I wanted to be a comic--period," he asserts. And to that end, he has developed routines that work as well at the dinner table as they do at comedy clubs. 

Cho got into comedy on a whim. One Monday night in 1986, he signed up for an "open mic" competition that was being taped in Knoxville for a Showtime special. "I watched the first five guys go up," he recalls, "and then I told my buddies, 'I'm gonna go up, try not to embarrass myself, and then we're out of here.' But I just destroyed the crowd. I got a standing ovation."

When Cho walked off the stage, the owner of the Funny Bone Comedy Clubs offered him a spot hosting the show for the rest of that week. By Friday, he had decided to drop out of college. A few months later, he was booked for his first nationwide tour, a six-week baptism by fire. "I've been doing it ever since," he says.

"My stand-up has always been a direct reflection of my life," Cho explains. "When I was single, I talked about single stuff. I talked about dating. When I got married, there were only a handful of stories I could move over to where I wasn't going to be disrespectful to my wife. So I developed a new routine." It was a comic windfall that his wife's family lives in Arab, Alabama. And now Cho and his wife have three kids to add stories to the mix.

Henry’s TV and film credits include appearances on NBC’s The Tonight Show, CBS’s The Late, Late, Show, and NBC’s Young Comedians Special. He served two years as host of NBC’s Friday Night Videos and had many guest roles on various network sitcoms. 

Henry’s one hour Comedy Central Special, “What’s That Clickin Noise?” is currently running and he can also be heard on Sirrus, XM and Blue Collar Radio.

Some of Henry’s film credits include Universal’s McHale’s Navy with Tom Arnold and David Allen Greer; Say It Isn’t So with Heather Graham and Sally Field; and Material Girls with Hilary Duff and Angelica Houston produced by Madonna.

Henry was the keynote entertainer for The 59th Annual Radio & Television Correspondents’ Dinner attended by the Bush Administration and has worked extensively with Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood and many others. Henry’s clean comedy is so versatile that he can headline Vegas and then tour with Michael W. Smith in the same month.
Most recently Henry has inked a deal with CBS and Paramount Studios to co-create, write, co-produce with Craig Ferguson and star in his own sitcom.

Henry donated proceeds from his May performances in Opelika and Florence to the Alabama Tornado Relief.  That makes him not only a stand-up comedian, but a stand up guy as well.

Stardome welcomes Birmingham's mega-talent, Roy Wood Jr.!

Named by Entertainment Weekly as one of 12 comics to watch in 2009, Roy has been featured on the new season of CBS’ The Late Show  with David Letterman, HBO’s DEF Comedy Jam, TV One’s ‘The Funny Spot with Tony Rock’,  BBC’s The World Stands Up-London, CBS’ Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and Comedy Central’s Bob & Tom Comedy Tour. He’s also showcased at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival and is a regular guest on the E! Network’s ‘Chelsea Lately’.

Hailing from Birmingham, AL, Roy’s creative writing and dedicated work ethic has since earned him the right to perform his comedy in front of millions of people coast to coast.

The universal appeal of his comedy crosses all race and cultural lines which is why he has opened for an array of comedians ranging from D.L. Hughley, Ron White, Monique, Tommy Davidson, Bill Engvall and Katt Williams.

A two-time nominee for APCA’s title of ‘Comedian of the Year’ Roy works numerous college and university appearances into his schedule every year as well.

Roy has also carved a niche for himself in the world of radio. Until late 2006 he was head writer and producer of the Buckwilde Morning Show WBHJ 95.7 JAMZ– Birmingham, AL.  He is also a regular guest on the ‘Bob & Tom Radio Show’, a syndicated morning show heard by more than six million people every morning. His hilarious prank phone calls are also carried in almost 50 different radio markets including stations in Canada and England.

In addition to terrestrial radio, his prank calls are a main stay on Jaime Foxx’s ‘Foxxhole Station’ on SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

The Comedy Club’s Open Mic Night is held twice a month at the Stardome within the intimacy of our Broadway Room.  With a maximum capacity of 70 people, it’s the perfect place to test your funny without hyperventilating with stage fright! To participate, you will need 5-7 minutes of clean, original material. For those of you whose material was once clean and has since taken a more risque road (you know who you are), scrub it clean or you may be subject to the “barb list” which is unfunny and uncool.

Open Mic Night is a competition and a judge in the audience will choose the best performers of the night based on stage presence, audience connection and response. The semi-finalists will then compete at the Open Mic Finale Show with the final winner receiving the awesome opportunity to perform up to 10 minutes on the Main Stage (who knows who you might be opening for)!!

For over two decades, the unforgettable caricature of veteran comedian James Gregory has stood grinning: his shirt un-tucked, his arms outstretched, a carefree welcome to a down-home, hilarious comedy experience. It’s storytelling at its best. The trademark caricature is the essence of James Gregory’s comedy: rib-tickling reflections on life from the front porch.

Gregory is constantly touring. He’s on the road about three days a week, forty six weeks a year. He continues to entertain sold-out crowds in theaters and comedy clubs and remains in demand for corporate events. James has been the featured entertainer for over 200 corporations, including the Coca Cola Company, Kimberly Clark Corporation, Hewlett Packard and Kroger. James has also been the featured speaker for events sponsored by various civic and church groups.

James is heard weekly on syndicated radio shows such as Rick and Bubba, John Boy and Billy and Bob and Tom. Combined, these shows are broadcast to people in over 220 cities nationwide. As a result, he now has a grass-roots following that numbers in the millions.

Gregory was born in a rural area about twenty five miles east of Atlanta, GA. He got his first job at the age of twelve at a small country grocery store. By the time he was fifteen, he was working thirty-seven hours a week, as well as going to school. As an adult, James has worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the Department of Defense, and spent almost ten years as a salesman before discovering the wonderful world of stand-up comedy.

James does not “tip-toe” through life as if he’s walking on broken glass or egg shells. That style is evident on stage as well. He is not politically correct. Much of his humor is centered on brilliant observations of crazy relatives and people obsessed with the slightest change in weather conditions - now referred to as global warming. He delights in poking fun at modern sensitive parents and out-of-control environmentalists. Gregory has been quoted as saying, “If you want me to be concerned about endangered species, you need to convince me that we’re about out of chickens.”

The James Gregory show turns the clock back to a time when life was simpler; to a better time, before the death of common sense; a time when people sat on the front porch and actually talked to each other without a cell phone in their ear.

Gregory’s success, like his comedy, is the direct result of the values he grew up with. And now, twenty something years later, it is this unique brand of humor that packs the crowds into his sold-out shows. Take a Comedy Ride with Benji Brown at Stardome!

Benji Brown is heating up the national comedy scene through his candid comedic performances.  Brown is witty, vivid, and hilarious!  He delivers diversity in his standup that allows you to feel as if you’re on an adventure.

You have seen him on numerous appearances of BET’s Comic View. He is the host of Improvs in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and West Palm Beach, and the star personality for Cox Radio WEDR 99 Jamz Morning Show in Miami. Benji is well known throughout the college circuit of comedy and national comedy clubs, in addition to working with a large list of headliners including: Chris Rock, Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley, Monique, and the list goes on.

Benji recently wrapped on his second DVD feature film, Benji Brown: The Breakthrough; which is in post-production to complement his top selling comedy film, In Touch With Reality, directed by Melvin James. This has been his most talked-about, and compared to Dave Chappelle’s comedy and sketches. Nothing Is For Free is to be released in the spring of 2007. Benji has appeared on Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza, and STARZ’s 1st Amendment Comedy Show, to name a few. He also appeared as a guest star on the 1st season of BET’s reality show College Hill. Previously, Benji was showcased on ESPN’s Cold Pizza and 360 Degrees – Game Night, as he regularly hosts national football player’s celebrity and charity events.

Recently, Benji completed an episode of MTV’s Nick Cannon Presents: Wild n’ Out, which aired on the 4th season in 2007. Benji also co-starred in a series of 2005 Bud Light Superbowl commercials with Cedric the Entertainer, as well as in a hip-hop comedy entitled, A Miami Tail, released by Lions Gate Films. Benji’s early success earned him respect from other comedians in the business, such as, Mike Epps who said, “He’s an actor doing comedy.”
